Custom reminders: how far ahead should you plan?
Three days for a message, two weeks for a gift, a month for anything handmade. A simple framework that holds up.
A reminder on the day is fine for a quick message. For almost anything else, it arrives too late to be useful. The right lead time depends on what you actually want to do.
A simple framework
- Three days for a thoughtful message or a call you want to plan around.
- Two weeks for a gift that has to be ordered and delivered.
- A month for anything handmade, anything that needs other people, or a trip.
These are not rules, just defaults that hold up for most people. Once you have used them for a few birthdays, you will know where to nudge them.
Setting it up in Torte
Open a person, tap Reminders, and add as many as you like — one a fortnight out for the gift, another the day before as a final nudge. Premium members can set advance reminders for every person and every event type.
The best reminder is the one that arrives while you can still do something about it.
